“Ese Niño va Hacer hacer un Doctor”

“Growing up, working in the medical field was never really my dream or passion,” Kenneth shares. “It was really my dad who always told me, ‘ese niño va hacer hacer un doctor’, which means ‘that boy is going to become a doctor’, in Spanish.” This early influence, though not initially a passion, combined with a pivotal personal experience, ultimately shaped his career path.

“What led me to fall in love with the medical field was in 2016 when my father was diagnosed with diabetes. During this very scary time in his life, I decided I was going to help him. I did extensive research on the best diet my dad could follow, and I always made sure to check his sugar levels.“

“Seeing my dad’s diabetes become controlled over time made me realize I could make a difference in this world, sparking my interest in working in healthcare. I decided to become a Medical assistant afterwards.”

Building a Foundation: Experience on the Front Lines of Care

Kenneth’s journey to becoming a Care Coordinator at MedElite involved gaining valuable experience in diverse healthcare settings. “My first job as a medical assistant was at a busy urgent care in which we saw 100 patients a day. My job was to register patients, check their insurances, and chart their vitals. The experience I gained working with different EMR systems like eClinicalworks helped me navigate through EMR systems that I currently use like PointClickCare and Sigmacare.”

His Vital Role Behind the Scenes

Kenneth describes his daily work with a meticulous focus on supporting patient care. “A typical day for me as a care coordinator involves reviewing patient charts and making sure I’m providing accurate information in all of my templates,” he explains. “I make sure to choose 2 chronic diagnoses then I dive deep into their charts to find out how the patient is doing.”

“My main focus is to make sure all of the patient’s assessments, blood work, and immunizations are up to date. Anything important that I see is missing and/or needs updates, I put it as a potential care gap.” This work is essential for ensuring smooth care transitions and proactive interventions.

Kenneth emphasizes the importance of key skills for success in his role. “You need to have a good eye for detail because you need to be as thorough as possible when going over the patient’s charts. You need to dig deep and find information that can be useful pertaining to the patient’s diagnoses.”

Kenneth is passionate about his professional development and deeply values the supportive environment at MedElite. “My personal goal is to be the best care coordinator I can be every day. I feel honored to be part of such an amazing team. My pod leader and manager have helped put me in the best position to succeed.”

“They’ve set a standard of success that I follow every day, and I try to share that with others. I love that my manager has trust in me and has given me the opportunity to help train new CCM care coordinators. I enjoy answering all their questions and enlightening them on things they aren’t familiar with. What brings me joy every day is watching them succeed as care coordinators.”
